Role of Iron in the Pathogenesis of Vibrio

Abstract

|
This study was performed to find the pathogenesis of Vibrio septicemia and the effect of ferric ammonium citrate in the growth of Vibrio vulnificus. The iron source stimulated the variation of morphotype from opaque to translucent colony. The rate of variation from opaque to translucent colony were increased in the high concentration of ferric ammonium citrate into enrich culture medium. There might be differences in virulence between opaque colony and translucent colony. Therefore the ferric iron seems to be related with virulence of the vibrio.
